problems using newest versions of NMRView and Java

I wanted to find out if I might be the only one having this problem and if 
there might be a fix for it.  Here's a summary of what I've found while 
trying to open my spectra which are saved as mat files from Felix 2000...

Windows XP (as up-to-date as a Windows machine can really be), Java SE 
Developers Kit 6 or higher:
-NMRView 7.0.1 or higher produces error (Buffer Underflow, BUFFER_PADDING 
not enough) when opening mat file
-NMRView 6.6.2 or lower opens window, but contents are garbage

Windows XP, Java SE Developers Kit 5 update 11:
-NMRView 7.0.1 or higher produces same error as listed above when opening 
mat file
-NMRView 6.6.2 or lower opens mat file with no problems

Macintosh OSX 10.4 (up-to-date), Java 5 update 7 (most recent Java version 
from Apple):
-NMRView 7.0.1 or higher opens window, but contents are garbage
-NMRView 6.6.2 or lower opens mat file with no problems
